DAAD RISE (Research Internships in Science and Engineering)
The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is the largest organization in the world in funding and supporting the international exchange of students and scholars. RISE is a summer internship for undergraduate students from the United States, Canada and the UK in the fields of biology, chemistry, physics, earth sciences and engineering. It offers unique opportunities for undergraduate students to work with research groups at universities and top research institutions across Germany for a period of 2 to 3 months during the summer. RISE interns are matched with doctoral students whom they assist and who serve as their mentors. German language skills are not required for most positions but would be helpful to manage everyday life outside of the laboratory. The working language will generally be English. Winners receive a monthly scholarship of 650 Euros for full month. The amount will be calculated on a daily basis if you will stay less than 22 days a month. DAAD provides health insurance, accident and personal liability insurance. All interns are invited to the three-day RISE Germany meeting in Heidelberg at the beginning of July and will receive an allowance of 160 Euros for travel to the meeting. The scholarship does not cover international travel costs. Note: The Certificate of Enrollment should be completed by the Registrar's office. They may not complete DAAD's form, but should give you a degree enrollment verification which you can submit along with the certificate.
